Our studio offers monthly events to expand knowledge base and encourage members to explore the many facets of this craft. Events have a wide range from free studio sales, member led workshops, and webinars to workshops with master potters from all over the world!
Richard is a renowned artist who has been teaching functional and sculptural ceramics since 1973! He has a dual MFA in Ceramics and Photography and has taught at several universities over the years. Richard brought Maek through constructing and attaching various wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces. Among other things, he demonstrated drop molds, making your own texture rollers and a spider die for the extruder.
Maek was honored to host Jose for a two day throwing and texture workshop. Jose is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and is a Master Potter from Spain who taught a handful of members techniques for throwing large vessels in porcelain.
Israel Basurto is a master of the Japanese technique known as Nerikomi! This technique uses colored clay to create patterns. Isra taught Maek how to safely and properly add pigments to color the clay, as well as how to work with the colored clay – touching on carving and glazing considerations to enhance this technique.
There is always something new to learn and try together. In our Basic Skills workshops we walk through techniques like collaring bottles, attaching handles, glazing techniques, making sets, etc. These workshops tend to be a few hours long with a casual learning environment for members to ask lots of questions and try out new ideas.
Our collective embodies a wide range of styles and decades of experience! From making the perfect lid to perfecting your sculpting technique, our members have a wealth of knowledge to share.
Maek offers members multiple opportunities to sell their work together at markets throughout the year! Studio sales are one of our favorite ways to participate in our neighborhoods and help folks support local makers.
